Global Literacy Rate Reaches All-Time High Thanks to Mobile Learning
A milestone in human development: UNESCO has announced that global literacy rates have reached 95%, the highest in history. The achievement is largely attributed to mobile learning initiatives that have brought education to the most remote corners of the world.
Programs like "Learn Anywhere" provide free educational content via basic smartphones, allowing people in areas without schools to learn to read and write. The content is available in over 200 languages and requires minimal data.
"Education is the foundation of everything—health, economic opportunity, civic participation," said UNESCO Director Maria Silva. "Reaching this milestone means a better future for millions."
The next goal is to achieve universal digital literacy by 2035, ensuring everyone can participate in the modern economy.
